Alfa Bakehouse – 42 Anderson Street, Yarraville

If I was a Yarraville local – and I’m starting to wish I was – there is no doubt Alfa Bakehouse would be my favourite spot for coffee.

Unlike many of the suburb’s cafés, Alfa never seems to be filled to the brim with people. It’s busy, yes, but there’s a lot of space, and always room for one more customer.

The café provides delicious meals for both lunch and breakfast.

A personal favourite is the farmer’s omelette with tomatoes, cooked tomato and bacon, while the Alfa Bliss, with eggs, bacon, homemade hash browns, rosemary infused mushrooms and chorizo seems to be popular with the locals – and no wonder.

If you come along for lunch you have the option of choosing something light. You can DIY your own focaccia, wrap or sandwich. But if you’re looking for something a bit more, the kitchen is open to make a number of options as well.

The lunch menu includes sweet corn fritters, chicken rissoles and salt and pepper calamari. You can also purchase their freshly baked goods, including muffins, rolls and donuts.

The inside is large and spacious, so there’s no feeling cramped or in the way. On warmer days you have the option of sitting out the front or in the back.

The front provides a few seats, whereas the back garden is one of the largest outdoor dining areas I have ever seen. At least 15 tables are scattered across the grass, in between trees and flowers. It seems to be the perfect place to soak up the sun while having lunch or coffee with friends.

And you won’t be disappointed with the coffee. Alfa serves nothing but Piazza D’oro blend – one of Australia’s leading coffee brands. On warmer days you can opt for an iced coffee instead, which is sure to be just as good.

Alfa Bakehouse is a winning café for both meals and light refreshments. It’s the perfect place to take a group of friends or family – you will instantly feel at home.

The service is quick and the staff are always friendly. Alfa also offer catering options for a number of occasions.

A true favourite among the Yarraville locals, Alfa Bakehouse has everything a good cafe needs. Try it out, and it will become one of your favourites too.
