Laverton is home to the Royal Australian Air Force's RAAF Base Williams. Though the airfield is no longer in use, aviation remains a strong theme in the south-western suburb. Aviation Road, for example, is the main commercial precinct. Along here there are takeaway shops, restaurants, an independent supermarket, a Bendigo Bank, and Club Laverton, a popular gaming venue. Fresh Chilli Thai Restaurant is a standout with locals.

The leafy suburb is minutes away from both Williamstown and Altona; a perk during the summer months when you might want to cool down at the beach. City access is also incredibly convenient due to the proximity of the Princes Freeway. Those preferring to commute by train have the benefit of two stations, Laverton Station and Aircraft Station, which operate on the Werribee line.
