keysborough Suburb Profile & Review

Keysborough was named after the Keys family, squatters who became the largest landowners in the area in the 1840s. Located south-west of Dandenong, Keysborough is semi-rural, residential and industrial. Though there have been significant developments, much of the area remains green wedge land, and these wide open spaces accommodate parks and sports fields, such as Keysborough Golf Club and the spectacular Coomoora Reserve.

Parkmore Shopping Centre contains a Coles supermarket, a Big W and a Kmart, in addition to many other specialty stores. A Community Kitchen Garden was established on the rooftop car park, and from here shoppers can feel free to take fresh seasonal produce. Six buses run from the shopping centre on their way to neighbouring areas. Buses also travel along Springvale Road, allowing school students and commuters convenient access to the city.

Schools in the area include Keysborough Secondary College and Turkish independent school Isik College, which reflects Keysborough's sizable Turkish community. Residents also commonly hail from Vietnam, India, and Sri Lanka. Haileybury, an independent school that incorporates both Haileybury College, an all-boys college and Haileybury Girls' College, an all-girls college, is one of Melbourne's top ranking private institutions.
