Attwood is a small suburb in the City of Hume. It is found east of Melbourne Airport, between Westmeadows and Greenvale. Large areasaround the suburb have been kept undeveloped because they are under the airport's east-west flight path. As a result, residents enjoy access to a number of scenic parks and reserves, thoughschools, major shopping centres, cinemas and restaurants are all available less than ten minutes away in neighbouring Broadmeadows.
From Attwood, it takes less than half an hour to reach the city along the Tullamarine Freeway. Those looking for public transport can jump on a bus to Broadmeadows, and then on a train to the city. The journey takes about an hour all up. The nearest school is Westmeadows Primary School, an established but modernised school within walking distance of Attwood.
The Victoria Police have a training complex in Attwood that includes the Dog Squad, a driver training track and practice facilities for their Mounted Branch. Attwood is generally known as a multicultural suburb, and just under a quarter of residents were born overseas. There was a massive population boom at the end of the 1990s that resulted in a large number of new houses being built.
