Altona Meadows is a quiet developing suburb in Melbourne's south-west. Residents come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and cultures. The Altona Treatment Plant in East Melbourne is a boon for local employment.

The Cheetham Wetlands are located within the suburb's constraints and prove popular with bushwalkers and birdwatchers because of the beautiful migratory birds they attract. Other leisure destinations include Central Square Shopping Centre, which features a Big W, Coles and fifty-five other specialty stores; and Altona Beach, which is inundated with visitors, especially in the summertime.

A number of bus routes service the area, while the Laverton and Aircraft railway stations are situated just over the Princes Freeway in Laverton. Trains run on the Werribee line and take less than half an hour to reach the city. Parents send their children to one of three primary schools: Altona Meadows Primary School, Queen of Peach Parish School and Altona Green Primary School. Seabrook Primary School in neighbouring Seabrook is also well-regarded by local families due to its high rank on the MySchool website.
