Horsham is located between Stawell and Dimboola on the Western Highway. It is also the section where the Henty and Wimmera highways intersect. It is a vibrant rural community with well-kept streets and facilities. The area is largely dependent on its sheep and grain grazing industries. While not traditionally reliant on tourism, the town does get a reasonable amount of business due to its proximity to the Grampians National Park and in particular Mount Arapiles, regarded as one of the best rock climbing destinations in Australia.

Roberts Avenue and Firebrace Street are the main commercial streets in town, lined with cafes and shops. Just a couple of streets to the west find Horsham Plaza, which has a Safeway and a Kmart, as well as other specialty shops. Horsham is home to the Wimmera Base Hospital which services the district along with the Dimboola campus. The Horsham Botanic Gardens were designed by William Guilfoyle, who curated the Melbourne Botanical Gardens.
