Bulleen is a large but quiet residential suburb bordered by the Yarra River. The beautiful reserves along its banks provide residents with ample space for jogging, cycling and picnicking. The Heide Museum of Modern Art is located within the Yarra River's parklands, and here visitors can view some of Australia's finest contemporary art exhibitions.

There are a few schools located in Bulleen, including the reputable Marcellin College, an all-boys Catholic secondary school, Bulleen Heights School and St Clement of Rome Primary School. Carey Grammar's Sports Complex on Bulleen Road has various playing fields for all forms of sport. Other public sporting grounds and reserves include Yarraleen Reserve and Morris Williams Reserve, which has an adventure playground for the kids.
