Once set apart from other Melbourne'suburbs, St Albans is now considered a middle-city area. In less than half an hour, you can reach the city on the West Gate Freeway or CityLink.

Those with a love of central European cuisine venture to St Albans Market, a small but busy produce market near St Albans Station. The main shopping district, also grouped around the station, features take away shops, late night pharmacies, specialised grocery stores, supermarkets and hairdressers. There are two other train stations that also cater to the suburb; Ginifer Station and Keilor Plains Station.
